Jesus says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). This is the first and greatest commandment. What does it mean to love God with all of you? And then, how do we apply it practically in our lives?
We can easily confess our love for God and not follow it through with the way we do things. First Timothy states that we should “be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). It is important to align our confession of love with our actions. What we say must manifest in what we do.
Our love for God is manifested in the way we love others, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34). Our capacity to love others, comes from God’s love for us. We cannot give what we haven’t received. So, our lives need to be surrendered under God, in a position to receive His love, as this enables us to give love. We should love others because in this God reveals Himself to the world. In the way we love one another, the world will know we are His disciples (John 13:15).
When God has all of who we are, He can pour all of Himself into us, so that we can be used as vessels in the Kingdom. All that we do must be to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).
