LOVE ONE ANOTHER

John 3 emphasises that our discipleship is not only marked by rules but by our love for one another. As Christ-followers, we are commanded to love, mirroring the profound love demonstrated by Jesus.

In the parable of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:25–37, we are challenged to love our neighbours as an extension of ourselves. This call transcends social norms, beckoning us to embrace a love that breaks down barriers and fosters genuine care for those around us.

Matthew 22 distills the essence of the Law into two transformative commandments: to love God wholeheartedly and to love our neighbours as ourselves. In doing so, we fulfil the entirety of the Law—a theme reiterated in the foundational commandments of Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 6. These ancient guidelines, summarised in the Ten Commandments, emphasise that our focus should not solely be on avoiding wrongdoing but, more importantly, on actively doing what is right.

As highlighted in these scriptures, recognising our sinful nature doesn’t lead to condemnation but rather to a profound truth: God loved us even before we loved Him. The Bible’s narrative of love transcends the shadows of sin, encouraging us to shift our focus from judgment to compassion.

As we navigate the complexities of life, let us ponder a fundamental question posed by the scriptures: Who do we consider to be our neighbour? The answer extends beyond geographical proximity, inviting us to see every person as someone worthy of love. In embracing this expansive view of love, we embark on a journey that mirrors the very heart of God.
