Promises of God Part 2

We mostly go through life oblivious to the promises of God. The word ‘promise’ is used over a thousand times in the Bible, and it is estimated that there are a further 8000 promises that God has given us. We see the power in a word from God in the creation story: the moment God says a thing, it begins to happen. Everything in the world is upheld by the powerful Word of God (Hebrews 1:3).

Peter writes that God has “given to us exceedingly great and precious promisesso that through them [we] may become partakers of [His] divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). Included in these promises is access to the Kingdom of God for the purpose of being partners with Christ in the work that God is doing on the earth. Through the Holy Spirit, we have access to the same power as Jesus. He said, “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these” (John 14:12).

We shouldn’t be dismayed when we can’t see the outcome in troubling times. God does not fail to keep His word. When a promise comes from God it is a concrete gift and a declaration of certainty. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1) and He directs the steps of the righteous (Psalm 37:23). Therefore, every step we take should be based on the Word, knowing we’re walking in the promises God.
